Two-year-old DaNyla Roberts was shot in the abdomen while at home sitting on the porch with her grandmother on the island of Eleuthera. According to police, a vehicle approached McQueen’s home on Baby Johnson Lane shortly before 10 p.m., when two men emerged and one made a few comments before firing. Maxine McQueen said two unknown men were passing then drove up and stopped in front rite opposite her house. McQueen said the passenger emerged from the car and said “they can’t come into Harbour Island no more.” McQueen’s neighbor that also stood outside asked the assailant who he was talking to, and that’s when he took the gun from his waist and started shooting. McQueen tried her best to cover her 2-year-old granddaughter as the shots were fired, but DaNyla was shot in the abdomen and airlifted to the hospital in New Providence. DaNyla had a successful surgery and is in recovery in the ICU. The family is also making an urgent appeal to the public for blood donations at Princess Margaret Hospital between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help with DaNyla’s recovery. This incident follows the death of 10-year-old Lorencia Simmons Walkes earlier this month, who succumbed to her injuries in hospital a week after being injured in a drive-by shooting off Carmichael Road on May 29.
