1. 1917 – $36.5 million
2. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker – $15.1 million
3. Jumanji: The Next Level – $14 million
4. Like a Boss – $10 million
5. Just Mercy – $10 million
1917 got a big boost from its Golden Globes wins. The Word War 1 drama topped the box office with $36.5 million after expanding into wide release. Last weekend the flick was named best motion picture – drama and Sam Mendes walked away with best director.
After three weeks at number-one, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dropped to second with $15.1 million. The film’s domestic total now stands at $478.2 million and its global take is just a few million shy of $1 billion.
Jumanji: The Next Level remained in third with $14 million.
The comedy Like a Boss, starring Rose Byrne and Tiffany Haddish, opened in fourth with $10 million, a little below expectations.
The drama Just Mercy, starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx, landed in fifth with $10 million as it went into wide release.
The Kristen Stewart thriller Underwater sank in its debut, landing in seventh with $7 million.
